  • crankshaft installation question

Hey everyone. A friend of mine was in tje process of rebuilding his motor $or his 01 grand am with a 3.4. H was sent to Afghanistan in the middle of it and his landlord is bitching about the car. So I was asked to rebuild it. I have a question tho. Right next to the rear main seal, but before the first journal, it looks as if something os supposed to be there like another seal. I say this because there is a gap there. Is there supposed to be something there?

I checked a Gen2 block last night and didn't see anything there, I'll check a gen3 today after work. I think i remember what you are talking about though and no, nothing goes there.
