  • Sensor on the side of my radiator, what is it for?

I am looking into replacing the stock radiator with an aluminum racing radiator on my 3.1 dirt car. I have noticed a sensor on the side of the OE radiator and am wondering what it's for and more importantly can I do without it. The car is an automatic, 93 Grand Prix, and I am going to get an external trans cooler so no probs there. Just need info on that pesky sensor.

It's a dummy low coolant sensor. When grounded it should turn the light off. That is how MINE works, although my car is not a GP.

If it's just a dummy low coolant sensor, or even a real low coolant sensor, then its not needed in this app. Thanks for the info.

I disconnected mine since it went faulty and made my "low coolant" light flicker on and off.
