  • Gen-I Heads Cracking

I have encountered another Trooper 2.8L with a cracked head. Both had a burnt intake valve and the head is cracked between the valves. Same chamber on the head (one was cyl #1, other was #6).

I've never heard of this being a known issue, is it?

not that ive ever heard, but then again the only troopers we came across were those of the 4 cylinder variety-& they went for ridiculous stretches of time.

The V6 trooper is just a standard Gen-I 60šV6 with TBI.

The 4cyl Troopers had known head gasket and head cracking problems on earlier castings, but otherwise they were pretty bulletproof.

Oh Yea the Cast Iron heads WILL crack when overheated. Its almost guaranteed if the water level gets so low that water fails to full fill up the cylinder head. Cracking will happen on almost all cast iron heads in this case. I know it is almost impossible to find a Dodge Magnum V8 cylinder head without cracks.

The 660 heads tend to crack between the valve seats. The crack will propagate into the water jacket and then you will start burning coolant.
