  • Question : 3.4 TPS and throttle percentage

I have a 3.4L in my jeep cherokee. I just got the Actron 9145 scanner with the ALDL cable. I have been having a wired hesitation when I push the gas more than ~50% down the jeep will bog down...I assume its because I am running rich due to running a cam that does not have a lobe for the cam sensor for the SFI.

When I am at idle the scanner says that the tps reading is .51V, when I got to WOT the scanner shows TPS voltage at ~3.4v. But when I am going WOT, it says that I am only at 80% throttle (this is with the pedal on the floor). So according to my haynes maual the tps voltage should be higher than that both at idle and WOT. But I am wondering if its actually a TPS problem or is it because the throttle cannot open all the way?

My throttle cabe is hooked up in my jeep as it is hooked up in the camaro, and I am using the factory mounting bracket.

Anyone have any ideas? Would this cause my hesitation/bog?

I changed the TPS on my lunch break and I am still getting the exact same readings. So I guess I need to some how make my throttle cable pull tighter. I will also check the v, with my multi meter when I have a chance.

go to a buick (or any car with a gen 1 3800) and take the adjustable TPS off of that, maybe it will help.

With the car running, remove and replace the connector to the TPS sensor. I was working on a car the other day and that fixed it. Was reading 12% throttle at idle, then went to 0% after (.62v iirc).

EDIT: Why are you using the OBD1.5 ECM? There are better options you know

I'll try the un plugging it thing later on.

I am running the OBD1.5 because that is the stock ecm for the engine. I have an ECM from a 3.1 5 speed 1992 Cavy that will be swaping in in the next few weeks/months. Keeping up with mowing grass on the weekends is not leaving much time for the fun stuff

Have you verified that when the gas pedal is wide open, so is the throttle plate?

I know the gas pedal is on the floor, I have not checked to see if the throttle plate in the t/b is wide open. I have been meaning to check that I just have not gotten around to it. I'll report back when I have checked that.
