  • Question : LX9 UIM bolt sizes

i can not find any good info on what the UIM bolt sizes are. i did see a mention of M8x1.25, then talk about allen head bolts and socket type bolts.

i need strait clear answers. my UIM has the shiney chrome 10 or 12 point bolts and some black regular ones. same thread pitch, but they are different lengths tho. thanks to merlot566jka and his improvising when he built the motor in a rush when he owned the car.

the bolt closest to the....here, look at this picture. its easier to point it out since my engine is backwards in the car. fiero.

the threaded hole in the LIM is kinda stripped out. but the bolt only sticks out about 1/4" or so. doesnt go deep enough to get a good grip IMO. i know i can tap a bigger hole, but i want to use the same looking bolts all around. i just need longer of the chrome bolts. *i think*

It IS M8-1.25 and I think that the bolt can actually protrude thru the LIM on that hole. (I would have to look at mine when I get to the garage later today.)

If so you could put a nut on the bottom, LOL!

Just watch the torque spec so you don't crack anything. 18 ft/lb

for the helicoil, it looks like i would still hafta tap the hole.

yes a little bigger, but you would have the same size bolt as the other holes.

I searched threads started by me, found it in the 3500 plenum swap check list thread. Threads created vs posts is a lot less.

I got mine from FastenAll store, Ace didn't have them. I think they had 60mm or really long or something.

I had a look at my car this afternoon and that bolt you are having an issue with DOES go all the way through the LIM.

So you could put a nut on the end of it with just a little messing around.

Just remember you are dealing with cast aluminum, or whatever crap alloy they came up with, so the 18 ft/lb limit is likely important.

In the "old days" I would ALWAYS Heli-coil aluminum intakes before I installed the carb.

i do need to note that my UIM is flipped over the other way so that the TB faces the right way.

so it would make it the same one, but different location on the LIM. that would be the LEFT most bolt on the front of the engine.

                        That's OK.

                        I realized the difference.

That bolt goes all the way through and you can put a nut on the bottom by just getting a slightly longer bolt if the one you have doesn't stick out enough.

Actually your manifold is not flipped at all.

It's your fuel rail that is.

i got a couple new bolts. some M8x1.25x70mm. one hex head and the other is an allen head. i used the allen head, think i maky just go over to all allen. they look cool. it barely pokes out the bottom of the LIM. but everything feels snug again. i was too lazy to start the engine again yesterday.
