  • EGR problem after header install

Hey, Sorry this is a bit of reading but I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

I've been battling with a code 32 on my 2.8/3.4MPFI in my Camaro now for a long while. I'll give you the short of it and them explain what I've just found.
I originally noticed the code come up after installing headers on my 2.8. I figured maybe I bumped the o2 and damaged it causing a bad reading. After replacing that the code went away for a short period but has been back since. The code only shows up under light steady throttle over 35mph (when egr opens) such as highway driving or light city cruising and goes away once more throttle is applied for a period. I thought maybe the headers disperse more heat than the stock manifolds and is letting the o2 out of operating range, so the 4 wire upgrade is in the plans aswell.

Swapped in the 3.4 with the 2.8 accessories, same problem.

Replaced the EGR because it did have a vacuum leak, replaced the solanoid with another one I had (hard to believe 2 bad solenoids), and checked that my egr passages are clean. Also am I supposed to get constant vacuum from the TB at idle for the egr hose or only once under load?

Also thought because I'm running a 28.5" tall tire on 20's in the rear maybe the difference in the actual airflow through the MAF (because higher land speed) according to the revs/trans speed maybe causes a bad reading. I revved about 1650prm at 60mph, with the 3.42's (now 4.10's as of Friday)

    Still code 32..

The EGR is a Pulse Width Modulated unit, and not sure but thinking is (what I read today) also a positive pack pressure EGR which means that it need a certain amount of back pressure to lift the pintle. So when I put the headers on and the Magnaflow exhaust it reduced the back pressure too much and now is not opening the egr at light throttle cruising speeds... makes sence to me.

Now to, how do I increase the back pressure to the EGR valve, will a larger washer in the EGR opening help for more egr gas? or will I need to move the egr tube on the header from a 90degree angle from the head to a straight shot into the egr tube?

Any ideas/experience? Anythign would be helpful,
    Thanks alot, Art

why dont you get a wot-tech chip from ben that removes the egr & just take the stupid thing off? i believe he charges like $60 & youll get more power as well, & everybody likes more power!

I did toss the idea of bypassing the egr before but the theory behind the egr system from I've found will give me the best performance and milage (and emissions for our stupid AirCare money grab) so I've like to keep it intact.
But may be the only thing I can do in the end... gonna try a few other options first.
