  • Question : Need some help.

Okay, I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand AM GT that recently started having a problem. The problem is that it is over heating. I have started off will the basics such as, water pump, sep. belt, thermostat, radiator reservoir cap.

So here is how it goes on a test drive. I started by letting idle for about 20min, while I aired up all of the tires. I then started on a 20 mile journey. For the first 14 miles every thing looked great, the temp would go up to 205 and the drop to 200. At mile 15 the temp starts rising fast, I am sure its doing this due to the fact that it starts spewing water.

Once it starts spewing water that means its boiling in the block which of course does not make for good thermal contact. The question is where do I go from here. I have made my own assumption that this may be a head gasket problem, but am gun shy of taking that step due to the cost. So I am here looking for ideas that may be lest costly, or at least help me out in determining the right cause.

Thanks in advance for your help.

you can do a coolant system pressure test to see where it is leaking and you can also try a cylinder leak down test they should point you in the right diretion
