  • Help! 3.4L intake gasket and 2000rpm idle!

Sorry that this had to be my first post as I've lurked on this board for awhile.

99 GrandAm 3400 with 246k miles. Just changed the intake manifold gaskets, upper and lower with updated GM kit ($76!) and reinstalled. Took me 17 hours and some skinned knuckles. Now two big problems:

1.) In park and neutral, car idles at 2000 rpm only when warm! this also causes some serious rough 1/2 shifts!
2.) Temperature runs at 215° when it warms up!

I prob will just try bleeding the coolant system, but this isn't causing idle problem right?

I trust you guys here otherwise I wouldn't have tried this myself...
    Thanks

sounds like you got a vac. leak somewhere between the lowerintake and the t.b....could be a ripped injector o ring..or one of the gaskets that got tweaked and smashed wrong...try spraying some carb clean around all gaskets and injector o rings...when you find the leak it will rev higher
