this in on my 1996 3.1 vin "m" L82... I have everything taken down on my LIM.. all the bolts i can see (should be 4, right?) are out of the manifold but i cant get the gasket (or the sealer) to let go of the manifold.. and i hate to jerk on it too hard since i have my jack under it, and had to remove one of the support brackets... got any ideas about how to get it to let go and come off quietly??

    thanks in advance,
    Shawn

There are 8 bolts, four on top and then two on each end of the LIM.

I will see if I can find a pic.

I never have... Just get a deep 10mm socket. If you take the fuel rail off, you have to replace all the o-rings.
You may or may not know 10 times what i do.

Also it may still be hard to get the manifold off, a little trick is to stick a half inch drive ratchet into one of the ports handle first of course and use it to pop one side of the manifold off the gasket. Basically use it as a prybar.

You can take the 2 bolts that hold the fuel rail down, and it will wiggle a bit for when you put the sockets to the LIM bolts, but dont pull the injectors or rail out or you will have to replace the orings.

I've hit it with a rubber mallet before to break it free. Last time I just grabbed and pulled up though.

careful prying and knocking on things, these manifolds are cheap alum and castings...they will shatter!

how i was shown was to use a wood block and a hammer. tap on points that are well reinforced and tap at angles that would dis-lodge the manifolds.

and...at all costs...make sure u got all the bolts out !!

There is an area/point listed in my Haynes lumina manual where you can safely pry on to get it to release. I can't remember where it is! I'll have to look at my manual when I get home.

only if they rip, you can avoid that by spraying some WD-40 down around where the injectors go into the LIM.

I've reused injector Orings 20-30 times without problems.

make sure to grease them when reinstalling the fuel rail.

I never had to pop/smack the LIM to crack it loose from the heads/block if the gasket was leaking. Now if someone used some right stuff or GM gray sealant, look out, it'll act as if it was welded on! For those I just use my plastic scraper and slide it down the sides and it'll pop up.
What I have seen someone do is put there ratchet handle in the middle port and "pop" it with there hand.... Long story short, they ended up needing a LIM.

ok now i have a new problem.. my Stupid boss came over and started giving me advice on what to do next when i was getting down to the LIM... I had the upper manifold off but laying to the side to keep the bolts in the holes (so I wouldn't loose them).. so he grabbed it and turned it over and dropped several of them by the transmission (big frieakin dummy-) so now I have to find them, and i have to figure out where the rest of the ones i have goes..

I found 2 of them have threaded extensions above the head but I dont know where they go...

does anyone have a diagram of where those 2 UIM bolts go???

This has been an experience, but I am ready for my nightmare to end.. If I had a garage with an a/c unit in it, I would have had this done 3 weekends ago.. but i have a medical condition which makes it difficult for me to be outside for long periods of time, so I have to be careful... and it gets HOT down here in new orleans..
