Ok, so I FINALLY found that block casting number on my engine in the GT that NO ONE on here , Bnet, Q4Forums or Bstuff seemed to know the location of , or was unwilling to share as I posted at all 4 about it.
Anyhoo.... Block casting number on my engine is 10065459 and was used in the following vehicles:
87 - 89 2.8 FWD
89 - 90 3.1 FWD
87 - 91 RWD Trooper, Rodeo
88 Fiero
Head casting numbers are 10048696 and I WAS mistaken. These are NOT Vin V heads (TGP). They are Vin T heads (N/A 3.1L). A common 3.1L head.
LIM casting number is 10110432. This seem to be unique to the 3.1L TGP engine.
This is where I get slightly confused. I thought the intakes and heads were easily interchangeable betweet the two engines, but it seems there are some UNIQUE differences. See this page for more information. But for example the Vin V heads had a 28cc combustion chamber and the Vin T heads a 26cc combustion chamber. So, yeah, while they'll interchange bolt /gasket wise, the TGP heads from the factory are better.
I guess my question is, I know what YEAR to buy my parts for , but with this motley crew of block , heads , and intakes, what MODEL do I buy for? Tune up things, like Spark Plugs, Wires, crap like that. I looked and it appears the MPFI OHV motors outta the Cutlass Supreme and N/A Grand Prix (both with the same 3.1L in other words) use the same part numbers as well as the '90 Beretta. They even put these blocks in the FWD Isuzu's ffs! So I'm guessing with all the same part numbers, I can just use the '90 Beretta for the engine stuff like plugs, filters, etc. The only reason I ask this as most part numbers are the same, the Oil Filters appear to be the one difference. Just go with the one that holds the most oil I guess,eh? The GP and Cutty are the same p/n while the Beretta is different. I know this seems trivial , but I want to be putting the RIGHT parts on the motor. Now that I know for sure the only thing TGP on this engine appears to be the LIM, I'm sure any 3.1L '90 model will work to look up parts, just double checking. Thanks.
***EDIT***
It looks like this block and heads combo (same casting numbers as my block/heads) ALSO went in the '89-'90 Buick Regal.
Oh, and for anyone who wants to know where the block casting number is on your 3.1L it's next to the front head on the passenger side end of the head and right below. Mine was covered up by two wire looms which is why I missed it the first time through.
