  • 3400 low oil light sensor

Can i move my low oil light sensor to the spot next to the oil filter on my 2004 3400? I ask because i am adding a oil pressure sensor but it is to large to fit in the spot next to the oil filter but would fit where the oil level light sensor is. Thanks

the low oil sensor is useless, by the time it comes on your pretty much screwed anyway. i dont have mine hooked up anymore.

find the right sender for the gauge cause it screws right in to the hole. the autometer gauge comes with everything you need to screw it right into the block.

I doubt it, I think that sensor needs to be actually sitting in oil and on that hole, I don't believe it will read correctly.

I hate my autometer oil pressure guage sender, the thing is so damn big I can't fit it anywhere.

i didnt have any problems with my autometer sender. you just put it where the dummy light sensor was. screws right in.
i honestly dont see why you guys are having so much trouble.

Where the dummy light sensor is in the bottom of the pan? If so, the 3500 doesn't have a place for that in the pan.

If you mean the stock oil pressure sensor, I am fairly sure that can not be removed?

Reason I am having issues is because I can't screw it in by the oil filter because the sender hits the motor mount, and there isn't enough room to put an elbow piece on it because then it would hit my headers if I could even screw the elbow in.

yeah the stock oil pressure sensor thing can be removed and left unplugged mine has been like this for over a year with no lights getting set as a result.

i wouldnt worry about the sensor on the bottom of the oil pan just splice the two wires together and forget about it.

take a pic if you can im curious about this even with headers it should be fine.

Or put a T by the stock OPSU and run both.. Do you get an idiot light with the OPSU disconnected? Some say the car won't run when it senses no oil pressure, others disagree...

no dummy light. car runs fine. wires just hangin there along with the low oil one on the bottom of the oil pan, new motor didnt have it in the pan.

ive had the one that usually goes in the oil pan unhooked since january no problems there either.

with a T you might not get a good pressure reading.

seriously just unhook it and forget about it.

I have a light for low oil level, and a low oil pressure light. I guess if the sensor connections are open circuit, they don't trip....? So if you tied them together they would?

Does anyone have a picture of the low oil level light sensor? I am not sure if i am even looking at the right thing anymore. Is it that long sensor that screws in about 5 inches strait towards the transmission from the oil filter?

That is the oil pressure sender, not the low oil level sensor. The low oil level sensor is in the bottom of the oil pan.

just forget about the one on the oil pan the one you want is on the front of the engine block above the starter.
ever wonder why they stopped putting the sensor in the oil pan. maybe the smartened up and figured out its pretty useless cause by the time it trips the light your pretty much screwed anyway.

wtf is the point of a low oil pressure idiot light if it can't actually shut the car off? no one is actually going to shut their car off and cruise to a stop in a panic because that tiny ass oil can light comes on. They will just figure it needs some oil.

After I get my coolant temp sensor cut down I'll unhook it and give it a shot. I would love to get rid of it for the autometer sender, would go perfect there.

Most of the oil drains to the pan when it's off right? Don't wanna unscrew it and have a quart of oil in my face :P

LOL now days probably not many. Me, my Dad, and a few others would as soon as it came on. We had an iron duke grand am and only had a pressure gauge IIRC and he lost pressure and pulled over right away.

Yes if it's off I don't think any will leak out. I don't recall any leaking on me when I changed my oil pressure sender to a variable one when I swapped gauge clusters.
