  • New injectors and I'm still losing pressure.

    Losing hope too.

I'm losing pressure faster than I was before. I can't find a leak anywhere. Pinched off the fuel lines and it made no difference.

I primed it a few times and used the bleeder on the guage to drain the air from the system. I'm trying a different gauge too if I can find one, but I doubt that's the problem. While replacing the injectors, I was doubting it was going to hold pressure, because that's just the way things have been going lately with this car. And I was right.

Tomorrow I'll pull the fuel rail up and watch the new injectors to see if they're leaking too.

I'm borrowing my dad's truck tomorrow, picking up a new coolant temp sender after work, and installing that just in case.

The o2 is new again. I don't want to foul this one up like the others by driving around running rich again. The one I pulled out today was black. The spark plugs weren't too bad though.

I'm really starting to get burnt out about this.

The checkball in my fuel pump is bad so I lose pressure if I don't have the pump running all the time.

I had a pump blow a loop of the O-ring seal out the top end of the pump where the casing seals against the end cap that contains the outlet fitting and motor brushes. It was a Borg Warner aftermarket pump with a metal impellar that was a second replacement for a new one just like it that failed between the time it was installed and when the wheels hit the ground for a test drive I think, or maybe before I got the wheels on the ground. I didn't catch the quality hint and exchanged if for another just like it instead of a different brand altogether.

I believe your problem is with the pump and your O2 sensor maybe getting filed up because the computer maybe compensating for intermittent low pressure that suddenly changes to normal and causes a rich mixture. I drove with a bad fuel pump unknowingly for weeks not realizing that the slight drop in fuel pressure on the gauge when reving was a weak pump not high demand from the larger engine and some how the stumble on throttle opening that was the reason for me checking it in the first place didn't ring the "aha" bell until I was nearly left braud side in the traffic path on a busy four lane road trying to get to the median.

If you haven't changed a fuel pump in a camaro or firebird, you haven't changed a pump. It's easier to add an external and suck the gas through the bad one.

I take it you gotta drop the tank? Same as the grand prix.

The tank, a good bit of the axle linkage, coil springs, part of the exhaust, all of the heat shielding and then comes the tank which seems like the car was built around it since it doesn't drop out without a fight. I heard at least one story of someone cutting a hole through the sheet metal from inside the car to get to the pump before. It's certainly a heap more involved than in a car where the tank is visible by simply looking underneath. I didn't use a lift so I'm sure that added to the misery but it was still a lot of work regardless.

ive done this on an 88 z24, the first time i just replaced the pump....bad mistake!!!

While you are in there, replace everything. since its such a pain to get to the damned thing, knock it all out while your in there. Pump, strainer, pulsator, level sender, wiring, o-ring on tank seal, and the metal ring that holds the pump assembly in the tank. it may cost you a little, but i would rather pay a chunck of cash rather than drop the tank every weekend.

Well, I'm going to pull the rail tonight and look for leaks from the injectors. There's no fuel coming out of the pressure regulator or cold start injector.

I"ve pinched off the fuel lines and it still loses pressure.

Well, the injectors aren't leaking, cold start injector, fpr, and fuel lines aren't leaking either.

Maybe there is something wrong with the fuel pump. I need something to shut the lines off or pinch them shut harder.
