  • Confirmation that any 90-93 L body ecm compatible?

I dont know the numbers on the ecms. I believe the ecm in my '90 beretta is a 7730. Will any 90-93 L-body ecm swap with one another? I have suspicions that the ecm may be the trouble with my 90 beretta running like crap (it still has no power, I havent had much time to work on it since I'm at school and its at home, but the car has so little power it is not driveable -> look for posts by me in pushrod maintenance if your interested) I have found an ecm for cheap but it is from a 93 corsica, I just want to be sure it will work with my retta before I buy it (my retta has digital dash that gets data direct from ecm if that makes difference?) Obviously I'll have to swap the manual trans chip as the donor ecm is likely from an auto car. Also would like to know if replacing the 90 chip with a 91-93 manual chip will require any other modification ? (I want it to be freescan compatible, cause if the ecm doesnt do the trick freescan is I think at this point the only thing that may be able to point me in the right direction).

also would the ecm from my dohc (i think a 7727) match my beretta ecm? I know the dohc is a weatherproof under hood unit and may not fit properly behind the glove box of the beretta but would the harnesses match up and hardware be compatible? If so, I could just swap it in and see if the 3.1 runs better and if the ecm was the problem.

I believe the connectors are different on the 7727 (they are weatherpak connectors, right?)... the 7730 (used in MANY cars, at least the 87-93 V6 Berettas, and 87-88 4-cylinders) It should be at least in all the 87-94 J-Bodies with the V6 aswell...

Yeh, ecm's are specific to engine size, etc...numbers have to match up, my Beretta Indy (90, 3.1 5 speed) needed a donor ecm, and a 90 z24 5 speed ecm worked great, both digital dash...(this matters as well.) the dohc ecm is not a match in an L body.trust me...haha

I dont trust you, cause the DOHC ecm will work if its 91-93. I used one in my grand prix 3.1. Between L and W, you have to convert the wiring since one is water proof and the other is not, with 4 connectors vs 3. The ECM itself is fully compatible, 1227727 and 1227730 all work. You can even use one out of a corvette, just swap the memcal.
