  • Cam timing, i have a question!?!?

I am tearing apart my 3.1 to do a topend swap and put a cam in it among some other things. So anyways, I get the timing cover off and notice that my cam is exactly 180 degrees off of what my haynes manual says it should be. (the timing mark on the cam sprocket is at the bottom when the crank sprocket is at the top) So I am wondering if I should put the new cam in the same as the old one or like the manual says. (where the timing marks on both sprockets are at the top) It seems to me like I should put it in like the old one. So, what should I do when I put the new cam in?

    Thanks,

    Shawn

The crank spins twice for every cam rotation, so if you turned it over again, it would line up.

Yeah, I just figured that out a second ago. I knew that, but it didn't register until a couple minutes ago. Thanks for the help though.

I am glad I figured it out too because I'm sure it would've turned into a big flaming. I am just really tired this week from tearing the engine down and working everyday and sort of being a rush to get the car out of the garage and getting frusterated with the car that I was expecting a problem, because everything goes wrong when you don't really have time for it go wrong, so as soon as I saw that I assumed it was a problem without even thinking about it. Then I posted the topic and 5 minutes later I thought to myself...duh. Then I came on here to post that i was an idiot and figured it out, but it had already been replied to. Its nice to know that you can get replies to problems that easy in case there is ever a situation when you need it. Look, it only took 9 minutes for someone to answer my question...not bad.

Oh well. I think I need to get more sleep.
