  • 2001 venture 3400 to 3900 possiblity

The local junk yard here is having their version of Black Friday sales...everything half off! So an engine out the door will be $150 dollars plus tax.

There's a 3900 there out of an 08' Buick van.

I'm having Tim Allen ideals of modifying the wife's van for more power "grunt....grunt"

A 3900 will swap out in place of a 3400 and I would run a 3500 intake with the 3400 ECM that's already in the van.

I would go as far as swapping out the 3900's cam for the 3400's to keep the factory 3400 accessories.

Would the ECM require tuning to accommodate the increased displacement?

    It's not a direct swap.

The cams are not compatible. The stock 3400 PCM cannot control the VVT on the 3900 nor can it control the stock ignition. The 3900 is a whole generation newer than the 3400, it's not the same as swapping in an LX9 3500.

So the 3400 cam will NOT fit in the 3900?

The 3400's PCM would be tuned to accommodate the 3900. I fit tested the 3500 intake and it doesn't fit the 3900 lower intake. Oh well.

Not directly, but cam spacers were made by TCE to fit a standard 3x00 cam in a VVT block. However, Marc of TCE is having health issues and is not producing anything right now to my knowledge.
