  • Help Sorting Out 95 Camaro Engine

Hello all, I posted in the intro my build. I have a 61 Morris Minor I put a 95 Camaro engine in with the 4l60e. Came out of a low mileage Camaro that was wrecked. Ran fantastic, roughly 60k miles on it. So being a bit of a frankenstein, symptoms are as follows now.

-Hard to start unless I hold the gas and keep on the gas slightly.
-Very rich smelling idling, slightly smokey.
    -Slight wandering to idle.

I have basically custom shorty headers I fabricated into a scavenger pipe, then goes single out the back with a magnaflow style muffler. Fueling is all stock up front, in the rear I had to do a return line into fuel neck, feed is a low pressure pump into a fuel accumulator, and then a High Pressure pump.

The PCM is a custom tune. Basically all stock accept to disable the security feature, and disable top speed, or rather it has now been setup as 200mph limited. I have tiny wheels, with 3.55's and I was worried I would be getting shut down at 80mph or so.

Where to start? I was gonna look at fuel pressure at the rails. I believe it is suppose to be around 42 or so? I did get rid of the EVAP stuff. Fabbed a plate on the intake. I think I am close, but it seems to be very hard to start, and keep running currently, and when it does, it burns the eyes.

    Thanks guys.

Fuel pressure sounds like a good place to start. Are you able to datalog?

I am not able to datalog. I am using the stock PCM that has been slightly re-tuned. Things I know I do not have hooked up are PS pressure switch, Oil level sensor, Oil Pressure sensor, engine coolant temperature gauge sensor, a/c compressor clutch, and canister purge solenoid valve. I will have to check about the exhaust gas recirculation solenoid if I deleted that or not. All the other sensors are connected. Like I said it runs, but slightly rough, idle seems a bit high, and smells very rich. I may see if I can hook up a light for codes...

A light for codes could be useful. Also, you could wire in an OBD1 port and get an ALDL cable to datalog with. They're pretty cheap.

I guess no way to put a ob2 port in? I have a very nice obd2 scanner. That would be nice.

OBD 2 scanner won't read the OBD1.5 even though the ports are the same.

Best to just wire in an OBD1 port since then the cable will be useful for other OBD1 cars as well.
