  • boring out iron 2.8L, few questions

boring out a 2.8 out of my grandma's old '84 S10 pick up with about 100k on it and other than being gunked up it seemed like nothing was worn much. but when we bored it +.020 and still didn't clean up the top ridge of the cylinders completely, we ended up going to .050 before it took everything out. funny thing about this is rather than being worn on the bottom of the cylinders as usually seen, it was excessively worn on the sides of the cylinder walls. what could cause this?
and also, what are your opinions of how reliable a +.060 V6 can be? I'm really not looking to track down another block for this rebuild so if this can work I'll just put it together this way.

I am not sure how much material those old blocks were made with. Before I dumped money into the motor I would take it to get the walls UT'd. Doing this will ensure you know the exact wall thickness and wont have to worry. Otherwise you could end up with overheating issues or worse, a crack.
