  • Throttle Plate Screws

3.1L TB......I got the right torx bit for the screws holding the Throttle Plate on, but they only go so far, the ends of the screws are buldged out or something so that the screws cant come out. How do you get the screws all the way out? Any hints?

You are not suposed to remove them. They are staked in. If you MUST remove them you need to grind the end off.

They are like this incase they ever do work loose they will never come all the way out and flow into your engine

Well, I want to take the throttle plate off so I can take the spring stuff off on the side of the TB. This is just one of like 5 spare TBs I have laying around, and just wanted to completely disassemble it.

Well go for it then. But remember you will need new screws. When you install the new screws you need to lock tite it in there and then I would deform the protruding threads so it is like factory again. Plus you will have the piece of mind that they will not take a trip through your engine.

The ones on my 3100 and my 3400 didn't have that! I was able to unscrew them and take them out with no complication

Thats true it depends on year and modle of TB

All of the TBI's I have worked with on my truck and others have had staked in screws.
