  • high milage or synthetic blend?

going to do an oil change before the winter hits, I was wondering what would be recomended. Currently there is a high milage blend in it, but I was wondering if a synthetic blend might be better to use. engine has about 300,000 kilometers on it (about 186000 miles).

    Any suggestions?

I'd use a good quality full synthetic with a dose of Lucas Synthetic Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer.

If you ain't rock and roll, you must be driving a Honda

      How about both?

Valvoline MaxLife is a high mileage synthetic blend. Just a heads up, this particular oil is a bit thicker than other oils of the same weight.

When I used it a few winters ago, my motor did tap at temperatures below *20F when cold.

No need to mix Lucas with MaxLife, however, I do recommend a can of the Restore. Works very well.

IMO, Mobil 1 is overrated. Also, unless you're buying the Extended Performance stuff, it's not a true synthetic.

"high mileage" oil are just oils that are VERY close to the next thickest viscosity rating.

well on valvoline conventional oil my car would start ticking at 5800 rpm, with valvoline full synthetic it would start ticking at 6100 rpm, with the mobil one it is gone

Synthetic all the way every time! Most cars come with it from factory. Depending on the conditions of your seals, from my experience, run the full synthetic, put the Lucas stuff in too if you want, Lucas makes good shit. But, watch your seals. If she starts to leak they weren't as good as you thought. Then do an oil change and drop to valvoline max-life, original or syn-blend. Run that till leak stops, 2-3 oil changes worth or 3-6k miles, the max-life will recondition the seals. Then go back to the full syn and it shouldn't leak.

A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.

well my seals arent 100%. i did have a leak and added a seal conditioner to the last change so i"ll start with the max-life and see how that goes.
