  • Dead Battery making it run like crap?

I went out to start the Beretta thats waiting on new gaskets (i try to start it once every few days and let it run a minute or so so keep the battery charged), But the other day i went out to start it and it was dead, just clicked and would barely crank.. Ok no problem, i jumped it and it fired right up like normal. Ok i pull the jumpers off and i go to move it over so i could pull my camper over too and it acts like its out of gas or has a bad fuel pump and stalls out. I hook the cables back up and it fires right back up. i leave them on and rev it up a little bit and move it to the limit of the cables. All it good so i disconnect again and mvoe my van back out of the way AGAIN which was getting old really fast. I get in and put it in drive. touch the gas and it wants to stall out again. It will idle but the second i touch the gas it dies. It just hit me that maybe the fuel pump isn't getting the pressure it needs despite the alternator charging since the battery is so dead. Could that be a possibility of am i jujst crazy? lol And if not then what else could it be? Fuel pressure reg.? I'm sure that the plugs are getting bad. I had put new ones in last year about this time, but with how the previous owner drove it, its probably due badly.

check the voltage across the battery while the car is running. If the pump isn't getting enough voltage it's not going to be able to keep up. The ECM will try to compensate by increasing the injector pulsewidth but it can only do so much.

i dont have a working multimeter right now.. but im going to put the battery on a deep slow charge over night starting tomorrow and see what that does to help it out. I just hope that no one messed with the car by putting something in the gastank... My ex's brother (the car is parked at my ex's house) is a little punk and has put sugar in their gas tank before when he didn't get his way. If i find out that he messed with my car then my next post will be from jail because i'm going to beat some since into him.. someone needs to. lol

According to the Mythbusters, Sugar didn't really do much when put into a gas tank. Neither did moth balls. IIRC Bleach caused some damage to the tank itself though...

low/dead battery would cause these issues... so i'd say you're on the right track.

i got the batt on charge now, didn't feel like running across town to get it last night lol. But as far as the mythbusters thing goes.. i'm sure that if you get a car with a low level of gas and add enough sugar its going to clump and clog the fuel pump.. Which the pump in the beretta is fairly new, less then 3 months old. And untill last week the car was sitting on close to empty untill i put around a 1/4 tank in it. So that kinda has me worried. I'm just not wanting to drop the tank and clean it out lol. And possibly get anew fuel pump and clean the injectors.
