  • More 3.4 questions

Ok, so the gist i got from my last thread is that a 3.4 RWD put into a FWD with the iron heads and intake (its an 86 Pontiac 6000 STE) really isn't gonna be much.

So, i searched and searched the site for a couple days and have these questions about the 3.4 swap. Any help with any question is GREATLY appreciated!!

1: The RWD 3.4L (from camaro/firebird) has a crank sensor for DIS already, correct?

2: Switching over to a DIS will require a computer change, correct? I've read that i would have to run a 7730 ECU. I tried to find the pin out thread but couldnt find it.

3: I would have to run an ECU from a car with the same trans, correct? I plan on using a 440t4 so don't know how that would work.

Sorry to keep asking simple questions, i'm working hard trying to figure out a good direction to go with this car. If the DIS swap isn't terribly difficult, then i could build the 3.4 RWD with aluminum heads and intake and make some better power. Thanks for any help guys, i'm just trying to build a good decent motor for this car!

    1.Yes
    2. Not really any ECM will run the DIS system the problem lies in the timing tables which need to be modified with a new chip.
    3. The 440T4 is not an electronic trans you don't need to worry about and ECM to control it. Only the 4T40E 4T60E and 4T80E would need and ECM to control it.
