  • Pushrod help!!!!

I am replacing heads on a 1993 3.1L for a cutlass the problem i am having is that the first rocker arm on the rear head is resting on the guideplate, leaving it very loose and i know once its running it going to cause a LOT of problems. Anybody know of this problem and how to solve it I was thinking i should just change out all of the rockers and lifters to roller, however its more expensive and i just bought all the non roller parts new PLEASE HELP

The pushrods are different lengths. Short one on the intake and long ones on the exhaust. make sure its right before you button it up

The pushrods are all right. The biggest snag is that i can't get the engine to turn 360 degrees it goes about 180 and stops. If i can get the cam to rotate around onto the rear cylinder then i can torque the last rocker arm down but i can't get it to line up. Any suggestions??

Then I bet you have an exhaust pushrod on an intake valve and that valve is hitting the piston when you turn the motor.

The combustion chambers on cylinders 2 and 5 have a mirror image of the other cylinders. It goes exhaust/intake, intake/exhaust, intake/exhaust or the mirror of that depending on what side you are facing from. It doesn't go int/exh int/exh int/exh. If cylinder 5 has a loose rocker then switch the pushrods around on the number 2 cylinder. I usually stick my finger in the port to make sure I'm going to the correct valve and do all of one type then all of the other so I don't get ahead of myself.

It's not cylinder 5 its cylinder 1. So should i take the heads back off and start all over again??

Unless there is an obvious problem with the way the head is seated I wouldn't touch it. There are alignment dowels to make it easy to line up. Did you check the pushrods to make sure they are on the correct valve? Is there anything in particular different there such as the lifter plunger being stuck down in the lifter? Is there a pivot ball under the rocker arm? Does the spring height match the other valves? Check to make sure the studs and valve stems appear top be in the same relative position as the other valves.
