I am converting a MGB to a MGV6. I have a 3.4 SFI from a 1994 Firebird. I been thinking on converting the SFI to carburator, I have iron cast heads so should not be any problem. But doing this I have to change the distributorless to distributor. Do any one have done this? Can I do it with a distributor from a 2.8 with vacum advance?
Thanks
Since almost all of the used distributors you're likely to find are going to be quite old (worn?), another option is an aftermarket one such as the Mallory.
I use one in my kit car with a 3.4, but have changed from the original dual point set-up to a Pertronix electronic system, which is maintenance free. One side note, use the original distributor lock down tab from a 2.8 and not one of those shiney auto parts store bits, as they allow the dizzy to move, especially at higher rpms.
Here's a couple pics of my engine. I'm using an Edelbrock Torquer II manifold with a small Holley 4 barrel. The Mallory doesn't have a vacuum advance, so it's also smaller than the original AC part. I also installed an Edelbrock cam and kit as part of the engine build.
The second photo was taken after I came up with a "cold air intake" system made partly from an airhorn for a Dodge truck! Holler if you have any questions to lowflyer1@cox.net

The car is called a Stalker and it's a kit made in Florida, inspired by the 1960's English Lotus 7 sports car.
The cold air system is a generic piece I picked up from Craig's List, but the air horn (the piece that sits on top of the carb) is from a fuel injected 360 cid Dodge truck, and also some V8 powered Jeeps of the 1990's. I had to enlarge the opening for the carb slightly to make it fit. I should note that I had already taken the air horn/choke off the carb to get it to fit under the hood.
The engine is a GM factory "crate" motor, designed as a replacement for the S10/S15 2.8 engine. It's a 3.4, but uses the V-drive fan belt/pulley set up from the 2.8. Power with the 4 barrel, Performer cam and kit, headers, etc. is around 190 hp, the car weighs 1510 wet.
Runs around 14 in the quarter at 97-98 mph. It would go a lot quicker but I've only run it on the 205/50-15 street tires. Even starting in 2nd gear, I can't get it to hook up. The trans is also a S10 unit as is the rear end with 3.42 gears and a Torsen LSD.
