the blue ones i got with the metal lower gaskets last year went in pretty easy.
didnt have to sit there and screw with it like the GM ones.

I think after they get old or if they touch carb cleaner they swell. The oilpan gasket did that too me as well when I changed the timing cover gasket in car. I had a hard time pushing it back down into place.

The new blue felpro valve cover gaskets did not give me trouble. And they later fadded to non-blue color... lol

the new gm ones did this to me. i had to sit there and play with it to get the thing to fit all the way in there or it seemed like it was too big, but the blue ones i put the set in the valve covers last week and they fit without playing with it.

When I get gaskets that do that, I usually put dabs of silly-cone around the gasket groove to hold it in there.

I think issac had a point, when these come in contact with petroleum products, they tend to swell, and a heat source will to.when i had first put on the roller tips on the olds,i pinched the gasket to where it was sticking out and leaking, upon removal,i tryed for at least a hour to situate this dang gasket back on,finally hopped in my wifes ricer, and got a new set.they had only ben on the valve covers for a couple of hours when i noticed the leak.so now i will shut up!
