  • 2.8 from 85 S10 go into a 90 S10?

I know they are somewhat different motors but can I put a motor from an 85 S10 into a 90 S10 that had the 2.8?

Yes you can. But you are right they are different. You can keep all your 2.8L fuel injection and put it on the old motor. You will loose a bit of power since the valves in the old heads are smaller.

So basically all I'd have to switch is put the FI from the 90 onto the old 85 motor? Any tips on doing this or other info?

You need to keep the flywheel/flexplate on the 85. You cannot use your 90 flywheel/flexplate. You will also need to swap over your accessories, timing cover, oil pan and distributor.

Basically just use the block, heads and internals.

So what if the 85 is a 5spd and the 90 is an auto?

You need to find a externally balanced flexplate or the engine will vibrate like mad.
