  • What is this sensor?

Bought a 3500 top end, and there's a sensor or something just to the right of the TB, it appears as though it's broken just to the left of of the plug. Not real sure what goes there.

    Can anyone help me out?

looking at this pic, seeing the connector is RED, I would imagine it is like the canister purge.

        Canister purge, on the UIM?

That just seems odd, but I'll take that since it does have the red connector. I'm going to guess that that solenoid is normally closed until it receives power? I run MS-II so I don't have any of that EVAP stuff hooked up. If it'll stay closed on it's own, i'm not going to worry about it.

not sure how it works (never really looked), but the normal purge goes to the intake anyways. in the older setup, it is connected through a Vacuum line that connects the PCV and the CANISTER PURGE to the top of the intake.

It is a normally closed valve without any power running to it. Some cars run a pwm signal, some are digital ( I think thats only older systems ). If it has a flat mounting surface, get some sheet metal, tin snips, and silicone and cap it off. I wouldn't want something that I didn't need that pokes out that far from the engine. I took it off, and the plastic heat isolator/spacer and tapped the manifold with 1/4" NPT barbed fitting for vacuum source.

Does anyone know if the purge solenoid is normally closed? That's my guess on it, since the ECU commands when to purge.

I'll try leaving it on there when I do the top end swap. If I start getting a vac. leak from there I'll have to do something about it I suppose. I'm sure I can find some use for it.
