I can get a used 2.8 MPFI out of an 89 camaro. I want to replace the the 2.8 MPFI in my 86 camaro. Are there any big differences that would catch me off guard. I want to take the 89 motor and do a total teardown and rebuild and then swap it into my camaro. I need to keep it on the road for commuting thats the only reason I dont just rebuild the motor thats in the car now.

I'll say that I don't KNOW of any. Are you sure you don't want a 3.4L? Time better invested if you're doing a full rebuild I think.'98 Volvo V90 - Ford 5.0 swap in progress
'96 LR Range Rover 4.6 HSE - suspiciously reliable
'92 Volvo 740 Wagon - former parts car, now daily-driver beater
'71 Opel Kadett Wagon - 1.9L CIH w/ Weber DGV 32/36, in bits

I havent really considered upgrading to the 3.4 or anything else bacause I dont want to get wrapped up in any wiring or ECM changes and I use the car for commuting so performance is rarely an issue. Im not going to use the old heads though, Ill probably get a new (rebuilt) set. Could I benefit from just upgraded heads without changing any manifolds or major parts and if so what should I look for?
