  • What engine/trans do I have?

    I have a 1990 S10 w/2.8 V6, can someone direct me to info on my engine/trans?

I'm using the S10 as a donor car to build a Seven-type roadster (see image below), and I was wondering what I could do to get more out of the engine. I saw this cam on Summit that seems more sports-car-ish than the others, what would I need to get with it? What lifters, chip, etc? It doesn't come in any of the kits like the other cams, so I don't know what to match it with.

    Any help is appreciated

Edit: What I want is a motor with 200hp+ at the wheels that easily revs to 7000+ rpm. If anyone can sum up the best way to get there for me, that would be great.

    Which engine?

Sounds to me like you're building a Stalker V6 !!!!

The 2.8 won't deliver much over 160 hp even with the normal add-ons.

The 3.4 will get a little closer to 180, but neither one of them is a high rev'er. My 3.4 has a rev limiter which I keep at 6400 rpm.

The tend to run "out of breath" over than anyway. With the normal "emission control" cylinder heads they don't rev well.

Hollar at me if I can be of any help.

Wow, great to see theres someone here who can help with my specific application!

This is pretty general, but I'm starting with next to zero info so bear with me. What would you suggest I do with my motor?

That is a race only cam. You would not want to run it on the street. That is a cam you have to build the rest of the motor around. It is not something you add to a slightly modified engine.
          1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma
          1990 4Door, 3.2L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. 4X4. Trooper

            Engine mods

I'm running the stock 3.4 Chevy crate motor, with an Edelbrock Performer cam, an Edelbrock Torker II manifold, Holley 390 cfm and a Mallory distributor.

So far the engine is dead reliable, has tons of torque (especially for this application) and has been worth the effort.

There are several Stalkers running around with a 2.8 in them, and they perform quite well. Obviously, you're giving up displacement compared to a 3.1 or 3.4.

I looked at the specs for your cam, and it could be a "little much" for your purposes.

Best of luck, hollar in a PM if you have any questions.

If you want 200 WHP then first thing is to get a good top end (heads, lower intake and upper intake), something that will flow enough. The 3400 top end will do that, also (depending on your budget) the 3500 LX9 top end will get you there even faster.

For the bottom end i'd ditch the 2.8 and grab a 3.4L from a '95ish Camaro. The Crane H272-2 cam is well known to make serious power. You should have no problems reaching your goal that way...

                So in short:

'95 3.4 Camaro RWD bottom end
newest possible 3400 SFI/3500SFI top end
                Crane H272-2 cam
(you'll need custom length pushrods, no biggie there)
3500 LX9 exhaust manifolds, or headers

you'll also need to grab a V6 Cavalier or Beretta wiring harness and computer. We can help you get it tuned and driveable.

Plus the other misc things like upgraded valve springs, a throttle body, hoses and mounts...
