Just curious on how much power the stock clutch system on the 284 can hold back. Seems to do fine with the engine that was mated to it, want to know if it can take more output and still last a decent amount of time.

Everything I've heard says it can take the same as the tranny can take, 250-275 ft/lbs. or torque. That should be more than enough for anything short of a forced induction car. If you are concerned though, there are aftermarket clutch makers out there. I'll swear by my Centerforce DF clutch, and there's a couple other ones I've heard about too.I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

I've noticed the clutch has a velvet touch to it when you get off the pedal real fast. I assume that has to do with the canister inline with the slave cylinder? The clutch holds and does lightly chirp second but it has an indirect feel to it.Last edited by gpse3400; 06-05-2006, 05:56 PM.Lorenzo
