  • Syncronizer rings

Are the syncro rings that hard to find for the 282 Getrag? My Trans has been in the shop for a little over a month now and It's starting to get ridiculous, keeps giving me the run-around. I just wanted to get them replaced before one went on me. The guy finally got it apart and said all of the syncros look fine except the 2nd gear one had a little wear on it. Anyone think I can get by without the rebuild?

I guess it depends on what his idea of "slight wear" Is, but it should be fine if that is the only thing wrong. It may be a little harder to shift into 2nd, but otherwise u should be ok.

i could say your synchro is worn just to get some $$ and say you need to buy a rebuild kit and just slap it back together.

tell him to show you personally, bring a camera

I did personally see it and it was bad from what I could tell one row of material was missing. Also I just got the trans back, $500 total (parts+labor). Also had to have one ear where the dowel pin in the block goes welded on, it just fell right off when I unbolted the trans. I'd rather have the trans rebuilt while It's out of the car rather than having to pull it again.
