  • pilot bushing?

I'm assuming our 282s have bushings, anyway. Doesn't look like enough space for a bearing.

Anyway, i pulled off the tranny from the old engine and didn't even think of the pilot bushing, as i knew i'd have to replace it.

Naturally the dealer doesn't have them, nor any auto parts.
Then i began to think, maybe it doesn't even take one? Well of course it does. It has too, the gap between the crank and the input shaft is like maybe (guessing) 5/32 or around there. Looks to be slightly larger than 1/8, but not quite 3/16, it may be 3/16, i'm not sure, but i doubt it. But, more or less, it's enough to cause a problem.

I tried picking one up for an older camaro or something when they had the 3.1 and for whyever reason, it's too thick. Too larger on the OD and too small on the ID.
Then i picked up another one, and the OD is perfect. Just slides right in with vitrually no play. However the ID is slightly too small. I'm tempted to take this little SOB to a machine shop and put it under a drill press and hollow it out slightly more.
UNLESS someone can think of another part that works or SOMETHING.
This is the ONLY thing holding me back from tossing the 282 back onto the engine. I've got a new clutch setup (clutch/pressure plate), T/O bearing, clutch fork, slave cylinder, master cylinder, resurfaced flywheel, all the shit i need, except this DAMNED pilot bushing.

    Help, anyone?

I have never used a pilot bushing on any GM FWD transaxles. The input shaft on the transmission doesn't stick out as far as the RWD transmissions, so it wouldn't even reach a pilot bushing if you installed one.

gm fwd's dont use pilot bushings, in fact, the only fwd car ive ever seen take a pilot bushing is honda, no other manufacturor uses pilot bushings in fwd cars.

toss that sucker back in there without a bushing, it doesnt use it anyways.
