  • another 4t60e issue

    My car just started having problems with the 1-2 shift mainly, but the other shifts feel different too. Under normal acceleration, the trans seems to pause for a second and then clunk into second gear. the 2-3 shift feels like it might do it a little too, but its hard to tell. the 1-2 shift is more noticable.
    At WOT it does it too, but its not quite as dramatic, i was starting to think it may be the vaccume modulator, but im still lost.

    possible that its the vaccume mod. pull the hose off and see if there is fluid in it. if so, replace it, if not you have internal issues.

      im gonna try a new modulator, i have a ton of them.. this is my 3rd transmission that has crapped on me in this car. i go through 1 trans a year, getting real annoying

        Its the nitrous trust me... I'm having the same problem now. Or a similar one.

          I assume it is nitrous related.. it used to do this only when i was on the spray, i didnt think anything of it, now that its doing it even worse at just light acceleration, im worried. i changed the modulator, but the one i put on it may have been shit too... im gonna try another...
          the reason i think it is the modulator is because it is worse with lower RPM. and at wot it seems decent... i havent been on the spray since..

            My car will, at WOT when trans cold, snap into second gear so hard the tires will break free and start spinning... this is N/A too, no spray... Once its warmed up it goes back to the normal shifts, still somewhat firm due to the transgo kit I have installed.

              My original trans used to shift real hard only when it was cold... i ended up grenading the insides about a month after it started shifting hard when cold. My 2nd trans never gave me problems untill one day when first gear slipped so bad i couldnt accelerate over 25. now my third trans is starting to have issues with first gear... i think im gonna take one of my old transmissions and attempt a rebuild. I dont really know what im doin, but where theres a will theres a way...

                Get a ATSG book... it's a good start, I have never been inside one of these and I'm getting ready to take the one thats in the car apart to fix it up, since my other core grenaded a roller sprag, and I don't know how good all the other hard parts are in it, plus the 94 has the 3.33 dif, so I can get a 3.33 fdr with 35 35 chain setup, rather than my 95 core with a 3.29 dif, I know not that much of a difference but I would rather have a 3.33 if I'm gonna change it.

                  My 4t65E-HD does the same thing when you gas it right at about the 1-2 shift. It'll act like it's half shifted between gears and then BANG, and squawk the tires a bit. Stock tranny.

                  I found this for it. "Vehicles with a 4T65E (and -HD) transmission often have complaints of soft up-shifts (especially 1-2), delayed reverse and low line rise. This can be traced to the OEM boost sleeve assembly wearing." Intense-racing sells a new boost valve for it.

                  Is it possible that there's some sort of problem like this with the 4t60e?

                    I'm sure thats what it is, my valve body is probably shot... But I don't know where to get a reliable rebuilt one, and new with pump is close to 500 from gmpartsdirect... Too much if you ask me.

                    Sonnax also makes fix boost valves too... But I dont feel like fixing a valve body that has over 200k on it.

                      Hmm... I cant remember what it was, but there's some reason that the 4t60E controller wont run the 4t65E. Otherwise i'd say swap to the 4t65E-HD.

                            Yeah thats the L-body selector... Lucky me... I think the channel plate is whats different. Because the gear selector connects to a valve in the channel plate... Who knows.

                            All I know is valve bodies are listed for all applications for like 93 up to 99 for the 4t60e...

                              well im gettin ready to tackle this rebuild. the transmission is still slipping badly in first, and i occasionally loose overdrive... i cruise the expressway at too high of rpms, i turn the car off, let it sit, then drive agian, and then my lockup is back??? strange, but the rebuild sould take care of issues
