  • Are all V6 Fiero 5 speedtransmissions the same?

I am thinking of pulling a five speed transmission out of a Fiero GT in the junkyard for use in my '88 (v6 five speed) Fiero Formula. Does anyone know of any problems with that?

No , one is a getrag and the other is made by isuzu. All 87 and 88 gt and Formulas had the Getrag and some 86 gt. Any fwd getrag will work with a kit sold by Rodney Dickman.

Are you sure the FWD 284 will work with that kit? I thought the V6 5 speeds were muncie/getrag and the 4 cylinders got the isuzu.

The muncie was the 4 speed. I have heard the getrag called a muncie/getrag . All 4 cylinders got the isuzu 5 speeds. I'm sure I have a Formula also.

          I have a friend with a 4-speed 4-cylinder... isn't that a muncie?

The only 5-speed installed in the V6 fiero is the 282

I believe Rodney Dickman's kit is for the second-revision trans with that internal pivot arm... a FWD trans from a 89 or earlier might just work as-is.. Rodney's kit most likely will ONLY work with the second-revision transmission and will not work with a 284, 3rd revision 282 (concentric slave), or the 287...

either way, if the trans came from a fiero, it should go into a fiero with no troubles...

Yes the 4 cyl. 4 speeds where muncies. The fwd getrags I believe will not work with out the kit. The kit reverses the shift patern. Contact Rodney to be sure.
