  • Need help-Tranny swap 4t45e in a 1999 Grand Am

All right, here is my story. Last year my little brother died and left me his 1999 Grand Am 3.4 SE. At 100,000 miles the tranny starts acting weird. It won?t move until it is warmed up. I talk to my cousin about this and he finds a used transmission with 22,000 on it and a one year warranty. He agrees to put it in if I buy it. So, I buy it. A few days latter he dies in an industrial accident. So now I have a tranny that I don?t really know how to put in myself. His older brother has agrees to help me put the used tranny in. He has replaced a front wheel tranny before. After I get the used tranny, from a 2001 Alero, I read that there is a TSB on the trannies oil pump spacer that can cause the tranny to fail. The TSB I am talking about is 01-07-30-016. So my question for all the transmission mechanics I see on here is. Should I replace that oil pump shaft? And, is their anything else I should do to this 2001 tranny before we put it in? Any help, comments, or suggestion would be GREATLY appreciated so that I can get the car my brother left me working.

    Thanks!!

Did you try simply changing the fluid and filter first? If it's got 100,000 on the clock and it's never been changed, i'm sure the filter could likely be plugged or something.

Yes I changed the filter and the tranny flushed...the oil was black. I got annother tranny to put in it I was just wondering since there is a TSB on the oil pump shaft, should I replace before I put in the other tranny...also tips and pointers are appreciated.

May not be a bad idea. And it's probably a bit easier to change it with the tranny out of the car already.
