RE: 5 spd grand am swap
If you have the whole 89 Cavy plus some parts from a 97ish 5-spd 4-cyl GA plus some extra cash for custom halfshafts, its possible. There have been a couple guys who have done it to Beretta's and one person that I know of in the process of doing it to an Alero. Oh, you also have to do some electronics magic to get the ECM not to fuss over not being able to control the tranny.
I'm pretty sure there are threads in this section talking about it.-Brad-

Just because its the same tranny doesn't mean the engine is sitting in the same place. If the 2 engines are oriented even slightly differently, it'll place the tranny in a different position and thus the halfshafts will be different.

i am getting ready to do a swap on a 97 gagt and found out that a 95-98 cavalier z24 came with the same 3100 but with a 5 spd stock, i test drove it and checked it out but haven't dug any further. also noted for the haters i know that some z24 came with the 2.4 h.o. twin cam but i know this car had the 3100, question is how many came like that.

How many? None from the factory. The Z24s dropped the 6-cyl when they changed body style in 95. There have been a couple people swap 3x00s into the newer body style, but they were never available like that from the factory.-Brad-
