  • stall speed/4t60e questions

I'd like to know what the converter stall speed for a stock 95 Grand Prix with 3.1 and 4t60e is supposed to be. Mine stalls at about 2800 rpm. The reason I'm asking is that this car has poor acceleration from a stop as well as when trying to pass someone on the highway. It almost feels/sounds like the brakes are applied but all the wheels move freely. The engine revs up easily and runs well overall. I changed the trans fluid and filter recently and the fluid looked and smelled just like new fluid (had about 30k since last service). This vehicle has been running like this for at least 40k (123,000 miles on vehicle). I did however notice foam and bubbles inside the transmission when I had the pan removed and there usually is 1-2 bubbles on the dipstick when checking fluid level. There has also been a funny chattering or whining noise that I believe is from the transmission (definitely not power steering noise). The noise is engine speed sensitive and I can hear it in all gears. It's not a very loud noise and you have to listen carefully hanging your head out the window to hear it in higher gears. TCC operation is smooth and normal. I suppose there could be a problem with the engine causing low power output but again the engine starts/runs fine and easily revs up (seems to work harder when accelerating, though). This car definitelty lacks power/acceleration compared to other W-cars I have driven. This vehicle used to be quite strong and had excellent acceleration. Any ideas? Trans or engine problem?

this could be torque converter lock up. I dont know a whole lot about these tranis but if you can find a blue plug with 4 tips for 4 wires(theres only actually 2 wires though) unplug it and try that that will at least tell you if thats your problem or not.But like I said I'm not sure if your trani has this plug.
I\'d rather push a CHEVY than drive a Ford!
