Does any one know the max HP a 4t60e can handle. I have read that it is in the area of 250. If this is true what are the options for beef the tranny up. Can I use 4t65e internals or is there a better way if this is possible?

The 4T60-E can handle more power than that, but not over a continueous amount of time (constant burnouts, ect...).
And No. You can not put 65-E parts into a 60-E tranny. The 65 is a bit larger than the 60.
There are a few ways for making the 4T60-E tougher. I can't recall any at the moment though.
4T60-E (M13):
Max. Engine Torque Rating:
280 lb-ft
4T65-E (M15, MN3, MN7, MD7):
Maximum Engine Torque:
280 lb (380 Nm)
Maximum Gearbox Torque:
400 lb (544 Nm)1995 Grand Am GT

yes, some parts of the 65 does work in the 60e, specifically some of the clutch plates.
IIRC, there are also a couple hard parts that work as well. however, for the most part, 95% of the 65 will not work in the 60.
im not sure what the rated specs are, but i guarantee im close to 300 wheel HP and close to 375 wheel TQ on my 4t60e (stock)

i would say that i am pushing the limits of what the 60e can handle. however, as long as your nice to it when you NOT racing then it should hold for a long time. if you romp on it at every stop sign, stop light, on ramp, and at every ricer you see..... dont expect any tranny to last TOO long.
the getrag 284 came in the older Z34's, but if your doing a swap, do the 282.
and i have no idea on the costs assosiated with the swap, however, if it didnt come with it, it will be a little difficult to do, but not impossible.
