my friend has a 90 grandprix with 3.1 and a 4t60 and the other day he said the tranny stoped working
i checked it out and heres what i know
the engine is fine purrs like a kitten
the tranny fluid is fine and at the right level
it doesnt matter what position the gear range selector is in the motor just revs like its in park
when gear selector is moved there is no load placed on the engine
(you know like when you put it in gear you can feel it jerk a bit) but it does come out of park
the gear range selector linkage is connected
the engine will only start with the gear range selector in P/N
there is no grinding noise oar anything when the engine is revved
(as there would be if the convertor broke off the flex plate or if the output shaft had snapped)
he said there was a cluck when it happened
my theory is that the trans itself is still intact but the convertor is messed up or that the chain has broken or something
we are going to start taking it apart and check a few things but thats not going to be for atleast a week
has anyone ever had anything like this happen or even heard of it
i am hoping to find out if its worth messing with to see what the problem is
i dont want to have to take it apart if its not necessary
