  • I think my trans is shot

Well the past few weeks have been a pain in the ass with my car. I am pretty sure its the transmission. I believe that it is having torque converter shudders when the TCC kicks in. When I am driving about 55mph for a few seconds or minutes, the engine and everything will shudder very violently untill I let off of the gas and go down to about 45 or less! I put the car into 3rd(Drive instead of over drive or D) and the problem 'seems' to disappear, even though it doesn't run very smooth when accelerating when over 55 - 60 mph, kinda shaky. Any one have any suggestions?

Sounds like the TCC. Also, what trans is this?

how does it do under hard accel runs, say from 0-75 or so? what engine/trans is in your car? if it's just while cruising it def sounds TC related, but if it's not running good under hard accel either then i'd start with the basics: spark plugs/wires, injectors, also might wanna check the tranny fluid. more info on the prob/car would help a lot.

Its a 1995 Grand Am with a 3.4L swap and had the 4T60-E. I am pretty sure that there is a injector problem or something to do with the timing on some of my problems (cause she don't run too good sometimes, I kept the newer injectors from the 2000 Grand Am, but I am going to swap in the 3.1 injectors to see what happens), but it will get up go very, very well 0 - 75. But when you let off of the gad to cruise it shudders so badly. I checked the trans fluid, and it looks full.

There is atleast 10 different totatly seperate things that will cause a car to shudder during TCC engagement/disengagement. What do you mean?

Sometimes it wont idle correctly, but I am not sure if its because of the injectors or something to do with spark. I really haven't had time to check yet though, probably a winter project.

there is stuff called shudder fix from lube guard that is a friction modifier
it might help but have you had a service lately
if your engine doesnt like the load at that time it might shudder
