  • 4t60e swap 96-99

Hey guys, I know I'm somewhat of a tranny guy but I'm getting mixed answers on swapping in a newer trans 99 gp 3100 to a 96 gp 3100, I havent compared the codes yet but I'm told that the lockup strategy changed in 97, then I was reading on beretta.net and 3400-modified was saying he's swapped 2 99 4t60es into 95/96 cars with no problems. Thoughts?.

it did change somewhat. the newer transaxles have a torque converter that even when locked up is in a constant state of slip, dont to minimize driveline vibrations/harshness into the passengers.

personally, i hate it and it seems like it would unnecessarily heat up the ATF for no reason. i like full lock.

i don't think anything changed electrically, though you may need to use the shifter position switch that is currently in the 96. that should directly swap though.
