  • Need help on 284 swap

Hello everyone! Hopefully soon I will be scoring a complete 284 setup to be swapped into my '94 Olds. The physical bolting up into place and modifying what is needed is no real issue for me. However what is, is the wiring. How would I go about modifying a 1994 auto harness to accept the 284 and its sensors/electical components?

Id rather try and have all my answers now, so when I put this thing in the car, Ill know what to do, rather than having it hanging out apart, in pieces for a while.

Also, to anyone who has done the swap, any tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated!

The VSS harness needs moved from the passenger side to the drivers, the two large wires on the P/N safety switch (purple and yellow IIRC) need soldered together, and I forgot what the other 4 wires on the P/N switch are. I know two are for the reverse lights and the other two are for the trunk popper? The control plug for the auto trans can just hang, that's how it is in my 91. The wiring was actually the easiest part once you have schematics.

Ive got the schematics for my car so I can take a look at that. I know there wasnt too many wires that needed to be messed with. And yes it is Yellow and Purple wires on the NSS. Anything else I should be aware of?

Since the autos never got a clutch safety switch on the floor inside the passenger compartment, no. If you feel the need to wire one in, split the large yellow (I believe it is) wire in the column harness and wire it in series. As far as everything else goes, I can't think of anything else wiring wise

Yup cut the yellow wire to hook in the 2 wires coming from the switch. Heads up you will want the switch.

I just got the swap parts today, and I also got the originaly 5spd harness with it too. Should make it much easier. I plan on getting this done in the spring, so until then Ill do a little more research, and will probably be back with more questions haha

Would anyone happen to have a stub shaft? I do not have this, and from what Ive read, I need it.

Another question, are the clutch pedals the same between 282/284? I wouldnt think they would be..

You should be swapping a hole pedal box and firewall plate from a 284 car for a susses full swap.

I've never seen a firewall plate or pedal assembly for a 282, but I don't see why GM would design anything different between the two. The only things I can see being different besides the trans themselves is shift cables, mounts, axles, clutches and clutch hydraulics.

They are completely different. The 282 it don't use the pedal box for the clutch.

Thanks for all the help guys, got everything wired up, just waiting on a clutch line, bleed the hydrualics, then time to start her up and see how it goes.
