  • pressure plate question

    long story short, I made my master cylinder and clutch petal adjustable to bandaid an issue I cant figure out.

    anyways, right now I have the clutch petal even with the brake, works perfect. BUT its pushed in. it does not slip. Is it bad for the pressure plate to have the tension on it or am I just over thinking/not thinking?

    Yeah probably not good. What does it matter if your pedals are even? Who cares? My clutch pedal is adjustable - as far as I knew they all are, and the way I have it adjusted right now the clutch pedal is about 1/2 inch higher than the brake. Doesn't bother me.

      How do you adjust the pedal? Can you actually change where the clutch engages? I thought that with hydraulic linkage there was no adjustment.

        The rod that goes from the top of the pedal through the firewall to the master cylinder is adjustable.. at least on my cars.

        Could be only on the internal slave cylinder cars though..

          If you still have pressure on the diaphragm when the clutch is engaged, then there will be extra wear in the throwout bearing.

            well mine wasnt adjustable.

            how I have it setup if I take my clutch petal adjuster off it will be a good 3" higher than the other petals. I like them even but I will go play with it a little to see if I can get the pressure off with the clutch engaged. how much extra wear are you talking? 50%?

              The bottom line is that the clutch should be completly disengaged when not used. Consistant loading of the throwout bearing will lead to premature failure.
