  • Transmission is acting up...

    Hey all!

My mom got a 2000 GrandAm SE with 3400 sfi V6 and auto trans. Original transmission was changed around 110K Km for what i think is a sort of slippage under heavy acceleration in the area of 80 to 12 km/h, RPM ocillating about 500 rpm up and down.
My parents had a used transmission installed and everything was fine.

But now this problem is coming back again. Odo is now at 143K Km and 2 years have passed. My thought are a bad controller programmation but i just want to make sure this a know issue among you guys who own a 3400 with auto trans.

    Thanks all
    Simon

have you checked the fluid level? i know most (including myself) overfill the tranny in the 4t60e's but i dont know about that tranny (4t65e) it may not even be mechanically related. i'd start with the fluid if it persists or gets worse the only way to know would be to open it up.

You have a 4T45-E. It does not seem like the filter and fluid have been changed ever in th eold one and the new one based on what you are saying. This will be somthing you will want to try before doing anything else. As there wont be anything else you really could do...

          Re: Transmission is acting up...

Grand Am SE will have the 4T4x-E, not the 4T65-E.

Yes it is definately a 4T45-E. The fluid and filter should be changed every 30,000 miles (convert to KM) on a transmission using Dexron 3. But it could be an electrical issue, bad pressure control soleniod or worn. I would check all the resistances on the soleniods and sensors at the main terminal, and I would also change the fluid and filter and see if that works. If not the unit will need to torn down.
