  • TH125 to.....something else.

Hey guys. I've got a 1989 Corsica LTZ 3.1. My ole 3 speed is showin' its age. What other trannys could I put in my car without modifying too much?

dont take my word for it but i think you could put a 4t60 in it and it should bolt up but you'd need the pcm chip from the donor car and mounts but the gp's, cutty's, luminas, and regals all used them with that motor.

correct me if im wrong because i probably am LOL

I believe the 4T60 uses a throttle valve cable, it is the 4T60E that is electronic control.

If you ain't rock and roll, you must be driving a Honda

440T4 (also called the 4T60 in later years) but you'll need to come up with different axles and other fun things. I'd just have the 125 rebuilt or swap in a 5 speed.

Thanks for the quick response guys! Superdave I've heard of people putting in the 282 Getrag 5 speed. I'm on a really really tight budget going to school and all. So i'm leaning towards the 5 speed. Are those hard to come by?

Yes, they are getting harder and harder to find.

a Corsica would be fairly easy to swap to a 5 speed, just find a V6 5 speed Beretta for a parts car.

282's aren't too bad to find although it's getting hard to find them in decent shape. a trip to all your local junk yards would give you an idea of what's available in your area.

Sweet! What other cars besides the Beretta would have that tranny?

V6 5 speed Cavaliers but i think there was some mounting differences between the L body and the J body. Maybe one of the Beretta guys can chime in on that. I've been knee deep in Cavaliers for about 10 years so i haven't played with the others much.
