  • Question : Thread seal on convertor bolts

    Alero 3400 V6:
    What type thread seal should I use on the torque convertor to driveplate bolts? High heat, or high strength-- both are listed on package for the application.

    Also, Haynes manual says mark location on convertor before removal, but a replacement tranny will be used.... how do I orient it? ( I am not at the repair site now, so I can't look at the convertor, it may be obvious when I go back to look).

    They only say to mark location to be sure that it goes in the same, but that's not necessary, I've never marked it upon removal.

    Also I will be using Blue thread locker from now on... I broke a universal joint trying to remove a set I put in with Red locker, It's really not needed to have that strong of a thread locker.

      I usually put red lock tight on the flex plate, flywheel bolts. The torque converter bolts I dont typically put anything on since removal might be a pain. The torque converter itself on these setups can be clocked any which way without detriment.
