My trans will be replaced soon, I hope. What I need to know is, how do you test the condition of the torque convertor system, if the trans is pretty much shot otherwise? Would it be a good idea to replace that too while we're in there? The drivetrain has had over 250 1/4 mile runs.

Replace it. They're $70-$100 bucks for stockers. All the trash from a failed transmission ends up in there as well and will destroy a fresh tranny in a heartbeat.
Plus, now's the time to pick out your favorite stall speed.

Every time I have gotten a used tranny from a junkyard, they came with the torque converter that was in the vehicle the tranny came from, so I used it. I didn't like the thought of what could be in the old one, even though the tranny had a filter in it.-60v6's 2nd Jon M.
