  • 1996 4T60-E HD info?

Anyone have any info on the 1996 4T60-E HD that was in the C/H/G Bodies with the L67 ???

I've heard it has a better diff, but what else?

All these '96 cars had an L67 and the 4T60E-HD:

C body = Buick Park Avenue Ultra
G body = Buick Riviera (Optional) (This trans had a 6 bolt structural cover, fits L bodies! )
    H body = Olds 88 LSS
H body = Pontiac Bonneville SSEI (optional on SSE)

All had a fine pitch 3.29 diff, 37/33 sprocket, 2.93 FDR, 30 tooth VSS ring, and 1897 RPM stall converter.

Nevermind... Im retarded and didnt read it all the way..

FDR, Hard Parts Stronger, Diff (stronger?), Clutch packs, TQ converter... thoes would be my guess.. thats about every thing i can think of that would be different (based upon what i have heard on the 4T65-E LD and HD)

must have been thinking of something else...

i see no reason (electronically) why anyone with any 4t60e couldn't run one...

        axles on the other hand...

Nothing electronically changed... Just hard parts. Strong diff, but what else?

Not sure, but there is a 96 SSEi and a 95 Riviera here in the junkyard. Unfortunately, they'll be ccrushed within a week.

did the 95 Rivs get the HD as well? assuming it's a supercharged motor anyway...

need more info, could be good for future projects...

The 4t60e-HD was used in all L67 cars (91-95 Series 1, 96 Series 2) for GM. The 96 obviously was the only Series 2. If you needed a computer to control both, that might be an option, but it limits you on the tuning ability. I think only one tuner supports the 96.

tuning is not an issue for me...

                  OBD1(DF) is FTW.

97 ecm's control 4t60e's as well, and IIRC they can be controlled all the way up to 99, or further. The 4t60e and 65e had very similar controls and the only big wiring differences were the wires for the pressure controls in the 65e, that was done by vac in the 60e. I could take my 97 ECM and control a 65e if I wanted to, but I would have to wire in one circuit to the trans, since my harness does not have that. For a newer ecm to control an older trans you just need to zero out the shift pressure and shift time tables.

And if I've been told correctly the only differences between the HD and LD versions is the diff. I'm assuming its the same as the 65e, because you can make a 65e a HD version by simply changing the diff and diff cover. Also if you have a LSD and your not doing peg leg burnouts, you probably will not break the current LD diff.

Yeah if it's only the diff it's not worth the hassle...

And the 60-e HD is only in 96 cars with a 3.8 series II super charged...

That's the only year it was available with the Series 2, it was available with the Series 1 L67 in 92-95. I've had three of them already (93 Bonneville SSEi's)

92-95 low roller sprags are the devil... which means so are the final drive rings that determine which sprag you need to run

I like the 96+ setups because they were designed much better.

The 96 HD's were the forward cut fine pitch 3.29, so you can't use a HD diff in a 95 and older trans without changing the final drive ring and all other related components. My book lists the HD's for 96, but it does not list any for 91-95... I wonder if they were not HD versions.

JimmyFloyd, according to the charts from GM, the only year was 96.........

Did the pan on the bottom say 4T60-E-HD ?

Jon, I'm pretty sure that 96 was the only HD year, with the 240/280 hp/tq SII L67.

There is bad info I believe out on the internet (gasp) that 91-95 had HD if you had a supercharged or 4.9L V8... When I believe it's ONLY 96 that got the HD.
