  • Question : Driveshaft trouble after 5 speed conversion

I swapped a 1991 Cavalier RS 5speed into my automatic 1993 Z24. The tranny is a Getrag Muncie. I used the driveshafts out of the 1991 car, but the CV boots keep pulling off the CV housing. Can anyone confirm for me what driveshafts should i use? since my car is a 1993, should i use driveshafts from that year, or wont they fit into my 1991 Getrag? I know the 93 and 94 cars used the "tripod" housing. Is this the driveshafts I need? I just dont feel like possibly wasting money getting the driveshafts and having them not work for me...
Why do I do this to myself?

the problem is you must have kept the original engine mounts. i had the same problem until i loosend all engine mounts and used a prybar to "center" the engine. or u could pick up the aluminum bracket for the front mount, and steel bracket on the rear at the dealer. trust me, ive been through this a few times with some 5speed swaps i did.

Thanks for the help. What I realized I also needed (likely what you also meant), was the body brackets which the 5-speed mounts would bolt to. Since I scrapped the '91 car already (derp), I painstakingly searched and searched, with great obsession, until I finally located another manual car in a distant junkyard to scalp the body brackets from.

My new project is to swap in an LZ9 3900, w/ F40 6-speed into my black '90 Z24; the '93 car was too rotten to save. Ill be fitting the j-body with the OBD2 platform from my parts car being a 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP. I'll also see about upgrading the brakes and rear suspension from the Pontiac. With enough welding, and cussing, I'm hopeful to succeed, haha!

Again, thanks for help. Sorry for the absurdly delayed response; I fell into a dark place for a longtime shortly after posting my question.
