  • 284 swap

I finally found a dohc GP with a 284 in it. It's at the pick n' pull so I was hoping to go and get the parts I'll need for a 5 speed swap. Hopefully you guys who have done this swap can help me out a little. The parts I think I'll need that I've gathered from the forums are:

    284 5 speed transmission
    2 front axles
    Intermediate Shaft Mount
    Intermediate Shaft
5 speed pedal bracket assembly with pedals and switches,
    5 speed specific Firewall Plate,
    Clutch Reservoir,
    Clutch Line & Master/Slave Cylinder,
Trans. case breather tube (metal tube that mounts to strut tower),
    Grand Prix Shifter,
    Shifter Cables,
GP 5 speed center console (w/DIC opening),

Please add anything I've missed I've only seen 2 of these in the last 4 years and I don't want to miss out it gets crushed in about 3 weeks!

I don't know much about clutches and shift linkages, or slave and master cylinders. I imagine I'll find out as I go.

1st question I have is where does the clutch cylinder mount up?? Looks like the firewall on top of the trans??

2nd question is how much of the dash has to come out to get to the point where the pedals can go in??

3rd question is how hard is it to take the manual transmission out?? Do I have to lift the engine or drop the sub frame or anything??

    thanks guys!!

Went to the yard today to take a good look at the transaxle. I was wondering if you guys could tell me how hard it is to pull the transaxle out. I got the linkage off of it and know where all the harnesses unplug. So far I can't really see where the trans bolts up to the engine. I only see the bolts that hold the two halves together. Any body have some good pictures of the 284 removed?? Do you guys think $90 is a good price for a 284.....

90's not bad. Even if you decide not to do the swap, PLEASE PULL THE SHIFT CABLES, and I'll buy them from you.
