come on guys..someone must have some idea..hes some symptoms for you

engine is under a constant load and will not go above 3k (around the convertor stall)
    P, R, N , OD, D and L doesnt matter which one

N will allow movement both ways running or not
car off in D it rolls both ways
car running in D it rolls forward but not back
car running in R it locks in place

R and not moving would suggest Selector cable adjustment. About what is happening at 3000, you description seems alittle vague....

The engine is under a constant load(other than itself and accessories) regardless of selector postion?

Selector cable is fine. The car doesnt not move on it own no matter what

Put your car in drive. Push the brake and gas. Thats what my car is doing in Park. If you want Ill get a video of it later this week if that helps. It acts like its in gear but I am able to push the car around. Kind of like preloading to launch the car at the track

One trans guy suggested that the clutches welded together somehow but if thats the case I shouldnt be able to move the car while its running in gear

I'll Take The Accum Housing Off Your Hands....That Is If It Is A 4AFW Trans.

I dont remember what the code is on this trans. I just remember it came from a 98 lumina. I have no idea when Ill have this one pulled. Need to get money together for a replacement and depending what I figure out when its out I may rebuild it stronger

so you power brake it a lot? were you power braking it when you were at the light? I've seen this a few times at the track with people power braking, you roll the sprag over in the torque converter. So that's my bet . If the fluid doesnt smell really burnt, id doubt the clutches are burnt enough for it to not work.
You may or may not know 10 times what i do.

This trans has very little power braking. I only do that at the track and this trans has only seen 3passes. At the time it died I was slowing down for a light after getting off the highway doing around 80-85mph if that matters
